That's just Sick!

This whole blog started during a time when I was on a running hiatus due to a cold that turned into COLDZILLA and kept me sidelined for nearly 7 weeks.

So imagine my insane frustration when 6 months later, I wake up feeling exactly like I did at the start of my previous illness.  I have been taking extra vitamin C, tons of fluids, cold medicine, drinking tea, sleeping whenever possible, and just taking it easy since Saturday.  It's Wednesday, and I am not feeling any better.  Granted, I'm not feeling any worse, either, so that's good, I guess.

On the other hand, I have not run since Sunday, and I'm cranky and whiny.  Boo hoo.

Half marathon training is supposed to start a week from Monday!  This is not good timing, people!

Do you run when you're sick? If so, what kind of sick do you run through, and what kind of sick makes you stay home?

  1. I run sick - as long as I don't have a fever. I did have 1 December a few years ago that I had a never ending sinus infection and bronchitis - neither of which responded to antibiotics - I turned into a complete slug for about 5-6 weeks!
Your body usually lets you know if it is capable of running or needs a break.
Hope you feel better soon and this isn't one of those never-ending things!!

    1. That's pretty much what happened to me in January/Feb of this year. 6-7 weeks of non stop yuck. Three doctors visits and 3 prescriptions and nothing worked. Ugh. I'm feeling a bit better now, so I'm really hoping this is just a summer cold!

  2. It really depends on what you classify as sick. You know you best.
But I do understand how you feel.
A few weeks ago I got hit with a cold (only just having gotten over one, a few weeks prior). I had a 10mi club run coming up and I really wanted to be able to run it (also to give me an idea of how I would go for my half marathon coming up soon).
If you asked me on the Monday if I was going to run, it would have been no. I had zero energy and felt like I was in a haze for days. Then Thursday I felt way better. Sure had to run with a hanky, and I could really feel my lungs, but it felt good to be out running.

    1. Sometimes it really does just feel better to be out running, doesn't it? I needed to be reminded of that today!

  3. So, normally, I take that first day to rest. . but one time, I went to the gym instead and I honestly got better faster. Again, like the above have said, you know your body best. I got super sick early this yr and my dr told me to take a slue of vitamins- I've noticed I don't get sick as often since then, too.
Hope this helps and you get better quickly!

  4. I also run when I'm sick. I always feel better when I come back. No matter how horrible I feel, if I make myself get out there, I feel so much better and my runs don't seem to suffer much. I read once if you are sick from the neck up you should run and if it's neck down you should not. I will admit to not following that though. LOL Hope you feel better soon!!

    1. Since when do runners ever really listen to doctors? =) I mostly don't run when I'm sick because I'm lazy. I forced myself to get out there today and I feel much better for having done so!
