Fitness Friday |
For the past two days, I've been madly scouring the internet for other bloggers, trying to build up more of a community - not only to foster some readership for my own blog, but to find other blogs that I'm interested in, and to see what's out there on the Wild Wild Web.
What I've found has amazed and delighted me - but also left me realizing that while I may be a runner, I am quite possibly the laziest runner out there. Yes, I finally started doing some core/strength workouts this week, but it's all baby-step stuff, and certainly not anywhere near as hardcore as what the rest of the running world seems to be doing. Ya'll are amazing - and inspirational.
So help me out. What's your favorite non-running work out? What do you absolutely hate to do, but love the results it gives you? What have you found to be totally useless? I need your knowledge, oh wise ones.
Those spin bikes at the gym - crazy-good for cardio! I can sweat worse on one of those than I ever can running and I really think it has helped my aerobic and anaerobic fitness!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I have never been on one of those! I'll have to get to the gym! Thanks. =)
DeleteI love, love, love strength training. I just recently added resistance training to my routine, and I am really enjoying it! I feel more powerful :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds awesome! I will have to add "feel powerful" to my to-do list. =) Thanks for sharing!
DeleteUseless is anything that you do not commit to, in my opinion - anything that gets us moving shows results as long as we stick to it. My other workouts are mostly strength training (that's where my heart is), but I try to keep active during the day on a regular basis (hiking with my dog, etc).
ReplyDeleteI'm following you now, have an awesome day!:)

So true! Running was the first thing that I enjoyed and could stick to. I guess I need to find something else that I can enjoy (or at least not dread!) so that I can stick to that, too. Consistency! :-)
DeleteIn answer to your questions.
ReplyDeleteWhat's your favorite non-running work out?
I love weight training, but circuit style. I just finished Chalean extreme and I loved it, the weight training really helped with building up my speed.
Also HIIT training, wow, fantastic for endurance too.
What do you absolutely hate to do, but love the results it gives you?
Speedwork. OMG hate hate hate hate. So I don't do speedwork, I do hill training instead. I would rather run up a 250m elevation hill than run laps on a track *bore*
What have you found to be totally useless?
I think everything has it's place, and yes some things are useless but i think it comes down to context.
For example, I like walking, but I don't consider walking to be exercise.
oh exercise bands instead of weights. Man those things are horrible. Yeah they have their place, but just invest in weights instead.
"For example, I like walking, but I don't consider walking to be exercise." <--- I find that funny, because I don't consider RUNNING to be exercise. LOL I run because I want to, I exercise because I "have" to. =)
DeleteI will have to Google Chalean extreme. Apparently there is MORE stuff I don't know anything about! Thanks for helping educate me. =)
I am still learning as a blogger and runner and am very happy to be a part of helpful and supportive community.
ReplyDeleteYes! Me, too. =)
DeleteWhere to start? Each running injury highlights a new muscle weakness/imbalance that I need to focus on! I think core strength is the most important. I learned in physical therapy that doing sets of 30 second planks (on my elbows) was most effective but it's good to mix things up. I also love interval workouts, like Jillian's 30 Day Shred.
ReplyDeleteI love Jillian. I have that DVD, but haven't used it in forever. Need to get back at it! =)
DeleteI LOVE YOGA! it helps me tremendously with my running, since I have been incorporating yoga 2 days a week along with my running, I have had better over all strength and quicker recovery not to mention better times.
ReplyDeleteAhhh! Yoga hates me. Or maybe I hate yoga. I don't know, but either way, we do not mix. LOL I am just so inflexible. But I'm glad to hear it works for you! =)
DeleteIf yoga is not your thing, you could give Pilates a try. I have never had much luck getting into yoga, but I really love Pilates. I definitely notice a difference in my posture and core strength when I do it regularly!
ReplyDeleteGlad to find your blog through Fitness Friday Linkup. :)
Now there's an idea! I've never given Pilates much thought, because it seems hard for some reason. Probably because I am a wimp. LOL
DeleteDoes blogging count and cross-training? [please say yes]
ReplyDeleteI think weight lifting is what I NEED to be doing but I don't. I like mt. biking the most as cross training but it's a pain because we have to drive at least 45 min. to get to any good trails.
Of COURSE blogging counts! Think of all the muscles you're building up in your fingers as you type. Plus you're using your brain, which is always a good thing. =)
