Don'...You know what, just do the race and relax. Don't "race" them. You've never done either distance, right? So, you'll get a nice slow time that will be easy to beat the next time you do those distances again with some training. I really think just experiencing a race at that distance is a huge hurdle. What's the worst that can happen, you have to stop and not finish? I'd rather do that than not start at all I think. You just made it 8 miles; in 3 weeks you can easily be at 10.
